Busy Weekend

What a busy weekend we had! Early Thursday morning, Brad and three of his friends left for a guys' weekend. They went up to Minnesota to watch the Ryder Cup and to play golf at a couple courses in Minnesota and Iowa.

I solo-parented Thursday/Friday, and then my parents arrived to our house Friday evening. The boys were thrilled to see their grandparents, and we were excited to have our first overnight guests in the new house.

We headed to downtown OKC bright and early Saturday morning for the Down Syndrome Festival and 5k. I walked the 5k and pushed the boys in the Bob Duallie stroller. The boys got out of the stroller toward the end and ran across the finish line... so adorable!. We had a great time at the festival and loved seeing so many family/friends there!

Following the festival, we headed down to Lawton, OK and spent some time at the Museum of the Great Plains. We get free admission there with an Oklahoma museum pass that we have, so we were excited to check it out for our first time. After the museum, we went to an early dinner and then my parents took the boys to their house in Wichita Falls, TX (about 40 minutes away). I checked into a hotel room in Lawton and enjoyed a super quiet night's sleep.

I woke up early Sunday morning and ran the Spirit of Survival Half Marathon. It was my fourth half marathon in 2016 and my seventh ever. Miles 0-10 felt great, but then my right calf cramped at about mile 10. I struggled the rest of the way in. My parents and the boys drove back up to Lawton that morning and were there to cheer me across the finish line. Hearing Caleb and Tyler yell "Go Mommy!" might just be one of my most favorite things! Caleb was excited to get his hands on my finisher's medal, and Tyler was eager to get his hands on my post-race snacks.

I hurried back to the hotel for a shower, and then we all went to an early lunch. The boys and I returned back to OKC Sunday afternoon, and Brad arrived home from his trip Sunday evening. And now another busy week has begun!

Down Syndrome Festival & 5k

Yesterday morning, we attended the Down Syndrome Festival and 5k in downtown OKC. Brad, along with several of our family and friends, did the 5k. Since I'm still not cleared by my doctor to resume running, Caleb and I joined everyone a little later for the awareness walk and festival. Team Caleb raised over $3600 for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma! We surpassed last year's total by $700! Thanks to everyone who donated!

Brad and some of his co-workers after the 5k

One of Brad's college friends got 2nd place in his division! Nice job, Matt!

Having fun in the playroom. The clinic where Caleb does OT volunteers in and supplies all the toys/activities for this room every year!

Caleb liked the two-week old goats at the petting zoo.

He wasn't feeling 100% (teething, I think), but we still had a wonderful time.

Team Caleb Shirts

Some people have asked me about ordering "Team Caleb" shirts for this year's Down Syndrome Festival & 5k. Last year, we did light blue "performance" t-shirts for adults and light blue cotton t-shirts for the kids. Both had a grey "Team Caleb" logo printed on the front.

If we do new shirts, the logo will remain the same. The only difference will be the actual shirt. Please help me make a decision by voting in the poll on the right side of the screen!

** Please note that the poll is only visible on the "web version" of this website. If you are viewing this on your phone, scroll to the bottom of the page and select "view web version". You should then be able to see the poll on the right side of your screen.

Buddy Walk and Run for T21 5k

We attended our first Buddy Walk on Saturday, October 19th. The day started with the Run for T21 5k. It was so cold outside at 8:00am, so Brad and Caleb ate breakfast at Starbucks while I ran. Immediately following the 5k, the Buddy Walk started at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark. About 25-30 of our friends and family came to support Caleb. From 9:00 to noon, we visited and let the kids enjoy all the Buddy Walk activities! At noon, we joined all of the other teams for a walk around the ballpark to show support for people with Down syndrome. Team Caleb raised $2909.00 for the Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma!

The Down Syndrome Association of Central Oklahoma will have their annual Buddy Walk on Saturday, October 19th at the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark in Oklahoma City. This is the main fundraiser for DSACO, and we are so excited to participate in it this year!

The Buddy Walk begins at 9:00am. Activities will include raffles, moon bounces, petting zoo, games, music, and much more! At noon, all attendees will walk one lap around the block outside the Chickasaw Bricktown Ballpark to show their support for acceptance and inclusion for people with Down syndrome. If you would like to join our team, click HERE.

To donate to our team's fundraising efforts, click HERE or use the donation tool on the right side of this blog page (not available on the Blogger mobile site... sorry!).

In addition to the Buddy Walk, there will be a Run for T21 5k beginning at 8:00am. Registration is $30. Each participant receives a Run for T21 t-shirt, and all finishers will get a medal. Runners and walkers of all ages are encouraged to participate. Click HERE To register for the 5k.

Several months ago, a good friend designed shirts for my marathon relay team. We are using the same shirt design for our Buddy Walk team. If you'd like to order one, please comment below or email me. I need shirt orders by Sunday, September 29th. The shirt is moisture wicking and 100% polyester. $12.50/each.
